The bathroom

Stripped back, then rebuilt

Drag the handle to compare. On 30 September the room was down to the frame, with the old second doorway still in the end wall. By 11 November that doorway was lined in VJ, the bath sat in its place and the room was tiled and fitted off.

01 Strip-out, 30 September 2025

Back to the frame

The old fit-out came out completely. By 30 September the wet walls of this Brassall bathroom were down to bare frame and the timber subfloor was exposed, ready for the new layout to be set out.

The design leans into the character of the home: classic shapes, bold tiles and warm timber up front, with new plumbing, sheeting and waterproofing behind them.

02 Rough-in, 5 October 2025

New services inside the walls

With the frame open, the new plumbing and electrical were roughed in, setting the exact positions for the shower, bath, basin and toilet.

Getting this stage right is what lets the finished room look simple. Every mixer and outlet lands where the tile layout and fixtures need it.

03 Sheeting, tiling and plumbing fit-off, 4 November 2025

Gloss black and patterned tile

By 4 November the walls were sheeted, the room was tiled and the plumbing was fitted off. Gloss black tiles, stacked vertically with crisp white grout, run to dado height around the room and full height in the shower. Underfoot, black and white patterned tiles give the floor a traditional look.

The freestanding black bath, pedestal basin and a traditional-style toilet with a timber seat were in place, and the timber door was trimmed to size and re-hung.

04 Fit-off, 11 November 2025

Finished in the detail

Fit-off wrapped up on 11 November. The cornice went in, a frameless glass panel was fitted to the walk-in shower, and the chrome gooseneck rain shower, hand shower and period-style cross-handle tapware were connected.

The old doorway into the next room was closed and lined with new VJ panelling, giving the bath a wall of its own. It is a good example of how bathroom renovations in Ipswich can respect an older home while giving it a modern bathroom.
