HEW Projects handles bathroom renovations across the Redlands, and Capalaba is a short drive from our Slacks Creek base. We are a QBCC licensed builder (licence 15267396) and a member of Master Builders Queensland (member 087220), so your renovation is run by a builder, not passed down a chain of subcontractors.
Our site supervisor coordinates every trade, from the strip-out and plumbing to waterproofing, tiling and fit-off. You get one point of contact, a clear written quote before work starts and regular updates while the room comes together. Our nearest recent job is a full bathroom in Rochedale, just over the Redlands border, finished with a double vanity and brass tapware.
At the free on-site visit we measure the room, look at how it is used day to day, check for signs of water damage and talk through layout, tiles and fixtures. You then receive a written quote that sets out the full scope, so you know exactly what is included before you commit.
Every job is scoped to the room and the house it sits in. These are the renovations Redlands homeowners ask us about most.
We strip the room back to the frame, deal with whatever the old tiles were hiding, then waterproof to the Australian Standard before any tile goes down. New plumbing, electrical, fixtures and fittings are installed by licensed trades and coordinated by us.
Ensuites in Redlands homes are often tight on space. Smart layouts, wall-hung vanities, recessed niches and frameless glass make a small room work harder and feel bigger.
Out with the framed cubicle or the shower over the bath, in with an open walk-in shower behind frameless glass. The floor is set out to fall to the waste so water stays where it should.
Hobless showers, wider entries, reinforced walls for grab rails and slip-resistant tiles. Planned properly, they help you stay in the home you love for longer.
Much of Capalaba and Alexandra Hills was built from the 1970s to the 1990s, mostly brick lowset homes with a main bathroom, a separate toilet and, in the later houses, a small ensuite. These bathrooms tend to share the same problems: small wall tiles with tired grout, shower recesses with a tiled hob, framed screens that never quite seal, and shower over bath setups that are awkward to step into.
The bigger issue is usually out of sight. Waterproofing from that era was often minimal, so a slow leak can show up as lifting floor tiles, swollen door frames or mould on the wall behind the shower. Homes built before 1990 can also contain asbestos in wet area sheeting or under old vinyl, so it should be tested before demolition and removed by a licensed removalist where needed.
Closer to the bay, the housing mix widens. Cleveland has everything from older family homes to townhouses and units, while Birkdale, Ormiston and Wellington Point mix established brick homes with larger two-storey houses on leafy blocks. In a two-storey home, the upstairs bathroom sits over a framed floor, so the floor build-up, falls and waterproofing need careful set-out to keep water out of the ceiling below.
Salt air near the water is also harder on fittings. We talk you through tapware finishes, exhaust fans ducted to the outside and ventilation that helps keep mould away. If you live in a unit or townhouse, body corporate approval is usually needed for work that touches waterproofing or plumbing, and we can help you put the paperwork together.
