Handover Inspections Gold Coast

Independent Pre-Handover (PCI) Inspections for New Homes

Professional Handover & Pre-Handover Inspections on the Gold Coast

Building a new home is exciting — but before you accept the keys, it’s essential to make sure the work has been completed properly and to a standard you’re happy with.

HEW Projects provides independent handover and pre-handover inspections across the Gold Coast. Also known as a Practical Completion Inspection (PCI), this is your final opportunity to ensure your new home meets the contract, the plans, and the Australian Standards — before the final payment is made.

Led by licensed builder and inspector Wale Makinde (QBCC Licence No. 15267396), our inspections give you clarity, confidence and a detailed record of any items that need attention before handover.

What is a Pre-Handover Inspection?

A pre-handover inspection (or PCI) takes place when your builder advises your new home is complete.

This inspection ensures:

  • Any defects, damage or unfinished work are identified
  • The build matches your plans and specifications
  • The property is safe and ready for you to move in

Having an independent inspector, rather than relying only on the builder’s final walkthrough, ensures you receive unbiased advice and full peace of mind.

What Is a Handover Inspection?

A handover inspection records the final condition of your new home at the time you take possession.

This inspection confirms:

  • Workmanship and overall finish quality
  • All fixtures, fittings and installations function correctly
  • Any issues are documented and submitted for rectification
  • While some people use the terms interchangeably, both refer to the critical inspection before you receive your keys.

What Our Happy Clients Say

Frequently Asked Questions

A pre-handover inspection is carried out when your builder advises the home is ready for handover (practical completion). It should take place before you make your final payment or accept the keys. This ensures any defects or unfinished work are noted and addressed before you move in.

Both refer to the same stage of your build — the final inspection before settlement. A pre-handover inspection is often called a Practical Completion Inspection (PCI). The aim is to confirm your new home is finished correctly and to standard, and to list any items that need rectification.

You’re welcome to attend, but it’s not required. Many clients prefer to arrive at the end of the inspection, where we can walk through findings together and answer any questions clearly.

Your report will include photographs, issue notes and required corrections. You simply provide this to your builder and they will arrange rectification works. You should only finalise payment or take possession after these items are completed.

Your detailed report is typically delivered same day or within 24 hours of the inspection, allowing you to move forward quickly and confidently.
