A good renovation keeps what you love about your home and fixes what holds it back. HEW Projects is a QBCC licensed builder (licence 15267396) and Master Builders Queensland member (member 087220), working as home renovation builders across Brisbane from our base in Slacks Creek. Our director, Wale Makinde, holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture, so design thinking is part of the job from the first visit, not an extra.
In Bardon, we renovated a split-level home with a heritage-listed street façade. The original house was lifted, a new level was built underneath and everything behind the façade was renewed, creating a five-bedroom family home with open living and two timber decks facing the creek reserve.
One licensed builder for the whole job, from structural work through to the last fitting.
Reworked floor plans, new kitchens and bathrooms, updated services and new finishes throughout, managed as one project. We plan the stages so structure, rough-ins and finishes happen in the right order.
Lifting a Queenslander or older home and building in underneath can add bedrooms, living space or a garage without giving up the backyard. It needs engineering, council checks and careful planning of stairs and services.
Ground floor and upper level extensions that tie into the existing roof, floor levels and finishes, so the new part of the house looks like it was always there.
Kitchen and bathroom renovations done by a builder, with licensed plumbing, electrical and waterproofing coordinated under one contract. Our Calamvale and Jamboree Heights bathrooms are recent examples.
Brisbane’s older suburbs are full of timber Queenslanders, post-war cottages and 1960s and 1970s brick homes, and each needs a different approach. Timber homes on stumps may need restumping, new subfloor framing or termite repairs before new finishes go in. Older homes can contain asbestos in wall and eave sheeting and lead in old paint, which should be tested and handled correctly before work starts. Wiring and plumbing are often due for replacement once the walls are open.
Many inner and middle ring suburbs also sit in a character or heritage overlay. In those areas, demolition, bigger changes to the front of the house and raising beyond set heights can need council approval, so it pays to check early. Our Bardon renovation shows it can be done well: the heritage-listed façade was kept intact while the home behind it was renewed.
We take on custom home renovations across Brisbane, from the northside to the southside and out to Logan. Every project starts with a free visit to your home, where we walk through what works, what does not and how you want to live. From there we price the work, present the quote face to face and, once you approve it, handle the building approval. During the build, our site supervisor runs every trade and you get regular updates, finishing with a walk-through together at handover.
Bathrooms are often the heart of a renovation. On the northside, we designed and built three luxury bathrooms for a new family home in Bridgeman Downs, with dark marble-look feature walls, a matte black freestanding bath and floating vanities. We have also renovated bathrooms in Calamvale on the southside and Jamboree Heights in the western suburbs.
