A single-storey custom home in Bellbird Park, Ipswich, that feels far bigger than its sub-400m² block. Ceilings at 2.7m, 2.4m internal doors and a wide entry give every room a sense of scale, while bifold doors connect the kitchen and living area to the alfresco. The build was delivered in five months.

01 The brief
This young family asked for a home that worked hard on a Bellbird Park block of less than 400m²: functional, private and easy to move through. A seamless link between the kitchen, living and alfresco areas was one of their key requests.
HEW Projects designed and built the home around that request, then added a separate media room alongside the bedrooms.
03 The kitchen
The open-plan kitchen is the heart of the home. White subway tiles wrap a window splashback that pulls in natural light, set against dark cabinetry, a long island bench with seating for four and amber glass pendants overhead.
There is ample bench space for cooking, and the dining table sits right alongside.
04 Indoor-outdoor
Black-framed bifold doors open the dining area out to the alfresco, so the kitchen, living and outdoor spaces work as one when the doors are folded back.
A double garage with internal access and a low-maintenance yard round out a home made for everyday family life.
